Jon Jones would want to fight Israel Adesanya as soon as he can, says Daniel Cormier
Former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight world champion Daniel Cormier believes that his old rival and ex-UFC light heavyweight world champion Jon Jones would benefit if he fights UFC Israel Adesanya as soon as he can.
Adesanya, the current UFC middleweight world champion, has engaged in an ugly war of words with Jones on twitter following his latest win over Paulo Costa last month in the main event of UFC 253.
Their difference in weight class is a roadblock in getting the bout made even though both have expressed their interest to face each other.
According to Cormier, Jones would not want to drag the fight any longer as Adesanya is only getting better each bout.
“I hope they fight at some point. I think it’s a very interesting matchup and I think that Adesanya is just improving every time out,” Cormier told the media at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
“So if I’m Jones I’m fighting him sooner than later if I can get him in there. Because remember, [Adesanya has] only been here for a couple of years, and now he looks like he’s going to hold the belt forever.”
UFC president Dana White had also expressed his interest in making the match happen previously stating that it is the fight to make in the UFC.
The 31-year-old Adesanya holds an unblemished mixed martial arts record of 20-0 while Jones, touted by some as the greatest ever, is 26-1 as a professional. -- BAP, GMA News
