Alex Eala advances to 2nd round of Spain pro tournament

Alex Eala advanced to the second round of the W15 Castellon tournament in Spain after a 6-1, 7-6, victory against Alba Carrillo Marin on Tuesday.

The French Open Juniors semifinalist came out firing on all cylinders in the first set, but she had to grind it out in the second to close out the Spaniard.

Eala will face Russia's Oksana Selekhmeteva in the next round of the clay tournament, which offers a prize money of $15,000.

Eala, who is currently ranked juniors world no. 3, attends the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain with her brother Miko.

In January, she won the Australian Open Juniors doubles title with Indonesian partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho. —MGP, GMA News
