Timofey Nastyukhin defeats Pieter Buist, Ramon Gonzales submitted in 1 at ONE: Inside the Matrix II
Hard-hitting lightweight Timofey Nastyukhin is bound to go up the lightweight ladder following a unanimous decision win over Pieter Buist this Friday night at ONE: Inside the Matrix II.
Nastyukhin was aggressive in the early going as he pressed forward throwing bombs from both hands. Buist was patient with his striking as he unleashed counter strikes and circled the cage.
The Russian remained the aggressor in round two. Buist remained calm and collected despite being on the receiving end of Nastyukhin’s relentless assault.
Buist landed his leg kicks and jabs in the final round. Nastyukhin was able to score a takedown halfway through the stanza then traded strikes at the center of the cage when they got back up on their feet.
All three judges saw the fight for the No. 4 ranked Nastyukhin after three rounds. He moved his record to 14-4 while the No. 3 ranked Buist dropped to 16-5.
Filipino flyweight Ramon Gonzales, meanwhile, suffered his second consecutive loss on the undercard against Eko Roni Saputra.
Gonzales did well in the early going of the contest but was outclassed by Saputra the moment that the fight had hit the ground. Saputra went for rear-naked choke while on the mat, forcing the Filipino to tap at the 4:07 mark of round one. – RC, GMA News
