McGregor vs. Poirier 2 is official for UFC 257

The much-anticipated rematch between former UFC featherweight and lightweight world champion Conor McGregor and former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is official.

The news was first reported by McGregor’s website themaclife.com stating that the Irish superstar has signed the contract to fight Poirier on January 23 at UFC 257 with Abu Dhabi being the likely venue.

McGregor (22-4) and Poirier (26-6) locked horns inside the octagon in 2014 where the former won by way of first-round technical knockout.

McGregor, 32, last saw action in January against UFC veteran Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 where he won via first-round technical knockout.

He is also seeking a big money fight with boxing’s lone eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao in 2021.

Poirier, meanwhile, also won his last fight against Dan Hooker by unanimous decision. He made his mark in the UFC after he lost to McGregor and has notable wins over Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and Max Holloway. -- BAP, GMA News
