Figueiredo, Shevchenko retain titles at UFC 255

Deiveson Figueiredo made a successful defense of his UFC flyweight world title following a first-round submission win over Alex Perez in the main event of UFC 255 this Sunday (Philippine time) at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

The champion was dominant from start to finish as he showcased how dangerous he is on his feet and on the ground. As soon as the fight landed on the mat, Figueiredo went for a guillotine choke that forced a tap from Perez at the 1:57 of round one.

The impressive finish improved Figueiredo’s professional mixed martial arts record to 20-1 while Perez dropped to 24-6.

In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko used every tool in her arsenal to topple Jennifer Maia. She scored with her wrestling and ground and pound early, then leaned on her trademark striking in the fifth round en route to a unanimous decision.

It was Shevchenko’s sixth consecutive win to defend her UFC women’s flyweight world title. She moved her record to 20-3 while Maia dropped to 18-7-1. — LA, GMA News
