Rene Catalan stopped in 37 seconds, Jomary Torres loses via TKO at ONE: Big Bang
One-time world title challenger Rene Catalan suffered his second consecutive defeat at the hands of Bokang Masunyane following a first-round knockout on the undercard of ONE: Big Bang on Friday.
The 41-year-old Asian and Southeast Asian Games wushu gold medalist traded strikes early with his South African foe only to get caught with a head kick that dropped him.
Catalan was out as soon as he hit the mat, prompting the referee to halt the contest at the 0:37 mark of round one.
Catalan's pro mixed martial arts record dropped to 6-4 while Masunyane improved his to 8-0.
Catalan's prizefighter, Filipina atomweight Jomary Torres, also saw action on the undercard against Indian wrestler Ritu Phogat.
Torres made it look competitive on feet but the fight took a 180 degree turn as soon as they went to the ground.
Phogat rained down elbows at the Filipina while on the mat, prompting the referee to halt the contest at the 3:55 mark of round one. —MGP, GMA News
