UFC fighter Irwin Rivera arrested for attempted murder

UFC fighter Irwin Rivera has been arrested on two counts of attempted murder in West Palm Beach, Florida.

According to an ESPN report, the 31-year-old mixed martial arts fighter is currently locked up without bail for allegedly stabbing his two sisters.

Boynton Beach police found two women, 22 and 33, with multiple stab wounds when they arrived at their residence.

The 22-year-old had wounds in her back, head, and arm while the 33-year-old was stabbed in the back, face, arms, and hands.

One of the sisters reported to the police that they woke up to Rivera repeatedly stabbing them with a knife.

Rivera fled the crime scene but was later caught by the police and confessed, "I killed my sisters" after being told by a "higher power."

In a statement, UFC said that it is investigating the incident and would not offer Rivera to fight anytime soon.

"UFC is aware of the recent incident involving Irwin Rivera and subsequently received information from his management that he has been exhibiting behavior consistent with mental health issues," the UFC statement read.

"The allegations are extremely troubling and the organization is currently gathering additional information," it added. "The investigation is ongoing and any potential next steps including disciplinary action or medical attention will be determined upon the conclusion."

Rivera, 10-6 as a pro, last fought inside the cage against Andre Ewell at UFC Fight Night this past September where he lost via split decision. —MGP, GMA News
