Alex Eala pulls off gritty 3-set win in W25 Grenoble first round
Fresh off her successful campaign in Manacor, Alex Eala continued picking up wins in the professional circuit with a gritty victory in the W25 Grenoble first round.
The 15-year-old Filipina ace prevailed against Romania's Laura-Ioana Paar in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, in the French tournament.
Paar, 32, is a tour veteran with 13 titles to her name. She is currently ranked no. 190 in the WTA.
Eala will face Spain's Cristina Bucsa in the second round.
A product of the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, the Pinay teen so far has a 15-6 career win-loss record.
She won her maiden pro title in the first leg in Manacor and reached the quarterfinals in the next two legs.
Last year, Eala won the Australian Open Juniors doubles title and reached the singles semifinals in the French Open Juniors.
She is ranked no. 3 in the ITF juniors and no. 903 in the WTA.
