Kamaru Usman retains UFC title with TKO over Gilbert Burns at UFC 258
UFC welterweight world champion Kamaru Usman made a successful third defense of his title following a technical knockout win over Gilbert Burns in the main event of UFC 258 this Sunday, at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Burns showed bad intentions early in the fight as he landed a hard right hand to the temple that stunned Usman. Burns was quick to close the distance in round two, throwing his lead right that seemingly bothered the champion.
Usman then started landing his jabs. An overhand right from the champion managed to hurt Burns then also dropped him with a jab with more than a minute left in round two.
Usman switched to southpaw the following round. A hard jab dropped the challenger anew which Usman followed up with vicious ground and pound that forced the referee to halt the contest at the 0:34 mark of round three.
It was Usman’s thirteenth straight win in the UFC, improving his record to 18-1 while Burns fell to 19-4. — LA, GMA News
