Kamaru Usman eyes second fight with Jorge Masvidal
Reigning UFC welterweight world champion Kamaru Usman wants to run it back with fan favorite Jorge Masvidal following the third successful defense of his title at UFC 258 this Sunday.
Usman, 33, overcame a first-round scare as he came back to stop his former teammate Gilbert Burns via technical knockout in round three.
Usman has already defeated some of the biggest names his division has to offer including Masvidal, but would like to have another bout with the latter for his next appearance inside the octagon.
“You’ve got this fake Jesus wannabe run his mouth, because he had a built-in excuse for stepping into that fight, why he took that loss, so next time I’m going to close his mouth for good and I’m going to put him to sleep,” said Usman.
Usman and Masvidal locked horns at UFC 251 in July 2020 where Usman emerged victorious by way of unanimous decision. It was a fight that Masvidal took on late notice after his original opponent, Burns, tested positive for COVID-19.
Wanting to prove that he is capable of beating Masvidal coming from a full training camp, Usman says he wants the fan favorite next before anyone else.
“I would love to come in and run through this fake Jesus wannabe and then whoever else. I would love to get three in because that’s three times the money so show me the money and let’s do it.” — BM, GMA News
