Nunes submits Anderson in one, Sterling wins UFC title by DQ at UFC 259

Reigning two-division champion Amanda Nunes retained her UFC women’s featherweight title in dominant fashion yet again following a first-round submission over Megan Anderson in the co-main event of UFC 259 this Sunday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Brazilian champ went to work early as she stunned Anderson with her right hand. The moment the fight went to the ground, Nunes transitioned to an armbar and forced a tap from Anderson at the 2:03 mark of round one.

It was Nunes’ 12th consecutive victory in the UFC, improving her record to 21-4 while Anderson dropped to 11-5.

Also on the undercard, Aljamain Sterling was crowned as the new UFC bantamweight world champion following a disqualification in the fourth round.

Sterling applied relentless pressure from the get-go but it was Yan who landed the clean hard shots that managed to hurt Sterling. An illegal knee from Yan to his downed opponent in round 4 ended the bout in disqualification, making Sterling the new UFC bantamweight world champion.

It was not the outcome that anyone has predicted, but the gold-plated strap now belongs to Sterling improving his record to 20-3 while Yan fell to 15-2. — LA, GMA News
