Alex Eala upsets French foe in W60 Bellinzona
Alex Eala is back on the winning track after defeating French opponent Margot Yerolymos in the first round of the W60 Bellinzona tournament in Switzerland on Tuesday.
Eala swept Women's Tennis Association (WTA) no. 323 Yerolymos, 7-6(6), 6-2, in a match that lasted for 2 hours and two minutes to advance to the next round of the competition.
This is Eala's first win after a string of losses in W25 Manacor, W15 Manacor, and the Miami Open qualifiers.
The victory also comes after Eala placed no. 715 in the WTA rankings, 22 spots up from her previous no. 737 and the highest place she obtained in the rankings.
If the 15-year-old tennis ace wins in Bellinzona, she will receive a cash prize of $60,000.
Eala won her first professional title last January and made quarterfinals appearances in her next three competitions.
