Fil-Moroccan trackster Yacine Guermali breaks national record in 1500m run
Filipino-Morocan trackster Yacine Guermali broke the Philippine record in the 1500-meter run on Sunday.
In the Portland Distance Carnival tournament, Guermali clocked in 3 minutes and 43.59 seconds, beating the previous national record obtained by Mervin Guarte in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games with 3 minutes and 47.65 seconds.
The Fil-Moroccan's time was enough to give him a second-place finish behind Caleb Webb with 3:42.57.
The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association said Guermali's time surpassed the SEAG record of 3:45.70 made by Vietnamese Dinh Cuong Nguyen back in 2007.
His clocked time was also faster than the performance of 2019 SEA Games gold medalist and Vietnamese athlete Duong Van Thai who had 4:06.63.
This is not the first time that Guermali broke a national record.
Back in April, the Gonzaga University athlete also surpassed the national record of Eduardo Buenavista (13:58.43) at the 5000-meter run after clocking in 13:52.54 in the Oregon Relays.
