Alex Eala advances to singles third round, doubles QF in Italy meet

Alex Eala continued her fine showing in Italy as she advanced to the next round in both singles and doubles play in JA Trofeo Bonfiglio tournament on Wednesday.

The Filipina teen tennis sensation, who was seeded first in both divisions, quickly dispatched her Canadian foe Kayla Cross, 6-1, 6-1, to move to the next round.

With the victory, Eala, the juniors' world no. 3, has arranged a third round meeting Ksenia Zaytseva, whom she hasn't played against in the past.

In the doubles, Eala teamed up with American Madison Sieg as they eliminated the Russian pair of Anastasiia Gureva and Ekaterina Maklakova, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7, earning themselves a quarterfinals seat.

Incidentally, Eala will also face Zaytseva in the doubles QF. The 16-year-old Zaytseva forms a tandem with another Russian netter, Yaraslava Bartashevich.

The tournament came just barely a week after Eala ended her maiden campaign in the Wimbledon event, where she also joined both the singles and doubles tourneys.
