Hidilyn Diaz to receive van from Foton as reward for historic Olympic gold

The rewards just keep coming for Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.

On top of cash incentives and residential properties, the star weightlifter will also receive a new van from vehicle manufacturer Foton.

In a statement, Foton said it will give Diaz a brand new TransVan 13-seater for her historic feat in the Tokyo Games.

"The Filipino Pride stands top high on an international audience with the triumph of our Filipino Athlete, Hidilyn Diaz," Foton Motor Philippines Inc. President Rommel Sytin said in a statement.

"As she drives home glory, we are honored to prize her utmost dedication with top-rated mobility of Foton TransVan 13-seater," he added.

Prior to the Olympics, the MVP Sports Foundation and business tycoon Ramon S. Ang pledged to donate P10 million each to anyone who will win a gold medal. Sports patron and Rep. Mikee Romero also pledged P3 million.

Diaz is also expected to receive a house and lot from Philippine Olympic Committee President and Rep. Bambol Tolentino and a condominium unit from Megaworld, Inc.

Airline companies Air Asia and Philippine Airlines will also reward her with free flights.

Fuel company Phoenix Petroleum also pledged P5 million in cash and a lifetime of free fuel.

All these on top of the national government's P10 million reward and Zamboanga City's P2.5 million prize. Zamboanga City is the hometown of Diaz.

Diaz won the gold medal after ruling the women's weightlifting 55-kg event on Monday.
