The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has confirmed that the postponed sixth edition of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Thailand will now be staged from November 17 to 26 in 2023 in Thailand.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino announced the development on Thursday, just days after the news of the staging of the Vietnam Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in mid-May was reported.
The AIMAG, which is held every four years, was originally scheduled to take place from March 10 to 19, 2022 but the Thai organizers and their government decided to defer the plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The postponement would allow our athletes to be better prepared for the AIMAG, which ranks as one of the most important multi-sport competitions in the continent," said Tolentino.
The POC eyes to send 160 athletes to the said competition.
