Onic PH hopes to replicate Bren Esports' world championship title conquest
SINGAPORE — After securing a spot in the upper bracket of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M3 World Championship, Onic PH is setting their sights to the ultimate goal: title conquest.
In the press conference after beating Brazil's Keyd Stars, skipper Allen Jedric "Baloyskie" Baloy said the team wants to secure back-to-back championship trophies for the Philippines.
Bren Esports won the M2 World Championship title earlier in the year. With both Onic PH and Blacklist International in the upper bracket, Baloyskie hopes to follow suit in M3.
"Actually, we really look up to Blacklist and we want to bring the world trophy back [to the Philippines], which was completed by Bren Esports. We won't allow it to go to another country and of course, it would be better if we [Onic PH] will be the one to take it back home," he said in Filipino.
Onic PH finished on top of Group B with strong wins over Todak of Malaysia and Vivo Keyd of Brazil after initially dropping its game against MPL Invitational champion Onic Esports of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, heavy favorite Blacklist lived up to its billing and swept its group stage campaign, dominating Red Canids of Brazil, Turkey's Bedel, and Malvinas Gaming in Group A.
Asked about the possibility of meeting Blacklist in the grand finals, Baloyskie expressed excitement over the prospect of a MPL Season 8 grand finals rematch.
"That would be fun," he said.
However, Baloyskie said the job isn't finished yet for the Filipinos as they still have to battle through the best MLBB teams across the world.
He said his squad also needs to make some adjustments as they move into the playoff round of the tournament.
"Maybe we will enhance our communication so that we can avoid the same mistake we made against the Indonesia team which resulted in our loss," he said.
