Junna Tsukii, Jamie Lim bag silver medals in Asian Karate Championships

Two Filipina karatekas won silver medals in the 2021 Asian Karate Championships held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from December 20 to 22.

Junna Tsukii fell to home bet Moldir Zhangbyrbay in the finals of female kumite -50 kg to take home the silver plum. Finishing third were Hong Kong's Tsang Yee Ting and Chinese Taipei's Gu Shiau-Shuang.

Tsukii's national team compatriot, Jamie Lim, also wound up second in the female -61 kg category. The daughter of PBA legend Samboy Lim lost to United Arab Emirates' Sarah Alameri in the finals.

Kymbat Toitonova of Kyrgyzstan and Rozita Alipourkeshka of Iran, meanwhile, settled for bronze medals.

Both Tsukii and Lim were gold medalists in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. The two are gearing up for the Vietnam SEA Games in May 2022.

Another Philippine bet had a podium finish as Filipino-Japanese Sakura Alforte took home the bronze medal in the senior kata female. She also finished with a bronze in the U21 kata female.

John Enrico Vasquez wound up ninth in the senior kata male while Ivan Christopher Agustin placed seventh in kumite male -75kg. Vasquez, though, will still take home a medal after he bagged the bronze in U21 kata male.

Remon Misu also finished third in U21 kumite female -61 kg.
