Ex-tennis ace Jelena Dokic hits back at body-shamers: 'It is not kind and it's ignorant'

Retired Australian tennis star Jelena Dokic blasted body-shamers who continue to troll her online.

Now a tennis commentator, the former world no. 4 Dokic posted a powerful statement on her Instagram account, saying seeing people comment about her weight and size has to stop and even called it  "disgusting behavior".

"This is a serious problem and one that women face all the time. I have said it before and I will say it again, STOP COMMENTING ON MY WEIGHT AND SIZE... It is not kind and it’s ignorant," Dokic said in a lengthy post.

"I am strong, I can take it and I don’t care about you but I will call it out. By doing this you might be doing damage and hurting someone else out there that you know nothing about and you have no idea what they might be going through."

According to Dokic, it is no secret that she has been having some struggles dealing with her weight but stressed she will continue to work on herself en route to achieving a much healthier physique.

"I have never hid the fact that I struggle with my weight. NEVER. It’s been a battle for me for a while especially since battling depression. But I am not ashamed of my size," Dokic, who retired in 2014, added.

"I will continue to work on myself but not for the sake of looking better but feeling better and being healthier."

Dokic had addressed the same issue a number of times in the past but said nothing changed.

"I can’t believe I have to address this again!"

"I am being body shamed again and I am seeing comments and even articles about my weight and appearance. It’s disgusting behaviour."

Dokic rose to stardom in the early to mid 2000s when she represented Australia in major international tournaments like the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open, and even Olympics.

The former netter has accumulated six singles titles in her WTA career while her best Grand Slam result came in 2000, when she reached the semifinal round of Wimbledon.
