Filipino skier Asa Miller flies to Beijing on Sunday for Winter Olympics
The Philippine delegation for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing is set to travel to China within a few days as the country will be represented by lone bet Asa Miller.
Chef de Mission Bones Floro and Athlete Welfare officer Joebert Yu will take a Japanese Airlines flight from Manila to Tokyo and finally to Beijing on Friday.
"It's all systems go for the departure of Team Philippines to Beijing. We have been complying with all the COVID-19 countermeasures and protocols for travel to the Beijing Olympic bubble," Floro said in a statement.
"We made sure that Asa's only concerns are his training and competitions."
On Sunday, Miller, his father Kelly, and Philippine Ski and Snowboard Federation president Jim Palomar Apelar are expected to fly from Los Angeles to Beijing, along with Philippine Skating Union president Nikki Cheng, who will take a separate flight from Manila.
Miller's American coach, Will Gregorak, is expected to join the team any time next week.
The Winter Olympics kick off on February 4 with the Filipino-American Miller competing in alpine skiing men's slalom and giant slalom starting on February 13 at the Xiaohaituo Alpine Skiing Center.
This will be Miller's second consecutive Games appearance after skiing in Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018, where he finished 70th among 110 participants.
