Asa Miller to serve as Philippine flag bearer for the second time in Winter Olympics

For a second time in a row, Asa Miller will serve as the country's flag bearer in the Winter Olympics.

The Filipino-American alpine skier will carry the Philippine colors in the Parade of Nations that will highlight the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.

Miller, 21, will be joined by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Rep. Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino, Philippine Ski and Snowboard Federation head Jim Palomar, and Chef de Mission Bones Floro.

"I'm extremely excited the first time, it was one of the best moments of my life," said Miller in a statement.

Miller previously performed the duties during the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, where figure skater Michael Martinez also saw action.

"It feels great that it's real now," Miller said. "And it feels great to be in China again—the Olympic spirit and the culture all over the place, as well as the other athletes—they’re very fun and motivating."

Miller will compete in the men's slalom and giant slalom at the Xiaohaituo Alpine Skiing field in Yanqing District starting on February 16.

In a previous interview, Miller said he is tempering his expectations from himself but vowed to go all out and give his best performance. He said he was inspired by Hidilyn Diaz' historic achievement in the Summer Games last year.
