Alex Eala finds groove, cruises to Round of 16 of France tilt

Alex Eala opened her W60 Grenoble main draw campaign with a rousing victory against Swiss foe Joanne Zuger, 6-4, 6-1, on Tuesday in France.

The win earned Eala a ticket to the Round of 16 where she will be pitted against hometown bet Chloe Paquet, who is 11 years older than the Filipina teen tennis sensation and who is currently WTA no. 124.

Against Zuger, Eala only committed four double faults while her opponent had seven. Eala also found herself down 2-3 in the opening set before winning the next three games for a 5-3 upperhand.

Zuger secured the following game but Eala managed to pull through, sealing the first set at 6-4.

The 16-year-old Eala asserted dominance in the second set, winning the first five games before Zuger snatched a game. But the Philippine bet never looked back since then and wrapped up the game.

The match lasted for one hour and 10 minutes.

Eala, a two-time junior Grand Slam champion, will try to move further in the tournament as he faces Paquet on Thursday.

Prior to the main draw, Eala had to battle Stefania Rubini of Italy, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, and Thanh Lan Truong of France, 6-3, 6-2, in their qualifying matches.
