Alex Eala crashes out of W25 Mancon with loss to Russian foe

Alex Eala absorbed yet another early exit after she fell to Anna Ukolova of Russia, 6-1, 2-6, 6(3)-7, in the opening round of the W25 Mancon in France on Wednesday night.

Eala, 16, had a strong start as she capitalized on Ukolova's mishaps on the hard court to take a dominating 6-1 opening set to her side. That momentum, though, did not go the Filipina teen sensation's way in the succeeding sets as Ukolova, 22, completed the comeback win.

The loss formally put a lid on Eala's campaign in the $25k tournament as she had earlier bidded goodbye in the doubles event.

She and her French partner Alice Robbe stumbled against the French duo of Audrey Albie and Aubane Droguet in straight sets, 4-2, 2-6, in the quarterfinals round on Tuesday.

Eala, who ranks no. 583 in WTA, was coming off a brief stint in the W60 Grenoble in France as well after she fell to Chloe Paquet, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6 in the Round of 16. — LA, GMA News
