Covington beats Masvidal via lopsided decision at UFC 272

The bitter rivalry between former best friends came to a conclusion following a lopsided victory for ex-UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington over Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272 this Sunday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

It was typical Covington from the get-go as he soundly mixed it up throwing punches, kicks, and scoring takedowns. Masvidal to his credit showcased improved wrestling and submission defense, but it was never enough to take Covington off of him.

The high octane pressure got to the hard-hitting Masvidal heading into round three as he virtually looked gas while Covington kept coming. But even with a depleted gas tank, Masvidal was able to hurt Covington with a hard right hook that momentarily halted the latter.

It was all Covington in the fifth and final round as he scored a takedown, unleashed punches while on the mat, and even looked for a rear naked choke. All three judges saw the fight for Covington after five rounds, the scorecards were 49-46, 50-45 and 50-44.
