Jorge Masvidal shows eye injury he suffered from Covington fight

Mixed martial arts fan-favorite Jorge Masvidal took to Twitter to show the wounded eye he suffered against Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 272 this past weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

Covington, a former UFC interim welterweight champion, accidentally poked Masvidal’s eye in the opening round but was not given a warning by referee Herb Dean. Covington took advantage of the eye poke then grinded Masvidal all night en route to a lopsided unanimous decision.

“Almost took eyes out but all good you cheating f— see you soon,” Masvidal wrote on Twitter.

Masvidal expressed his disappointment with the referee’s officiating during the post-fight press conference but ultimately admitted that his former best friend was the better man that evening.

“I’ve had a couple of mishaps with Herb Dean I just don’t get why he didn’t fix the action,” said Masvidal.

“[Covington] threw a punch, missed, and then immediately jabbed me in the eyeball. I’m not going to take anything from [Covington] winning the fight because that was just one sequence.”
