Athlete trains for triathlon by swimming from Sorsogon to Albay
To take part in his first triathlon, a young athlete goes the extra mile—or the extra 12 kilometers—by swimming from Sorsogon to Albay as part of his training.
As seen on “24 Oras” Monday, 19-year-old Bert Justine Narciso gives it his all as he dives into the sea despite his training being difficult, which he admits. On the morning of March 5, he dove into the sea in Donsol, Sorsogon to make the swim to Pio Duran, Albay.
He made it in three hours and 38 minutes, despite getting injured along the way.
“Sa una, okay naman yung dagat. Nung nasa kalagitnaan na po ako, tinatangay ako sa ilalim ng bahagi ng dagat. Nagtamo po ako ng sugat dito sa parte ng kamay ko then talampakan ko,” he said.
[“At first, the ocean was okay. When I was in the middle, it was starting to drag me from below. I got a wound on my hand and on my foot.”]
In a triathlon, there are three sports: cycling, running, and swimming. Because of how arduous the event is, it cannot be helped that sometimes, racers get cramps. This usually happens when one is tired or has an electrolyte deficit.
“Ang dahilan ng pulikat o cramps ay ang paulit-ulit na pag-galaw ng ating kamay at paa na hindi naman tayo trained doon sa movement na ‘yon,” Kuya Kim said.
[“The cause of cramps is repeatedly moving the hands or feet in a way that it’s not trained to do it.”]
When one gets cramps in water, Kuya Kim said, don’t panic, try to float, and wait until pain goes away.
