Eduard Folayang wants ex-UFC fighter Sage Northcutt in Muay Thai bout

Former ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang of Baguio City’s Team Lakay is eager to compete in another all-striking bout following his latest outing at ONE Championship’s tenth-anniversary special ONE: X.

Folayang, 37, scored a stunning unanimous decision nod over Muay Thai legend and ten-time world champion John Wayne Parr this past weekend in Singapore. If given the opportunity, Folayang says he would like to try his wares against ex-UFC fighter Sage Northcutt.

“I still have a purpose in mixed martial arts but if they want karate versus wushu, probably Sage Northcutt. He is a karate guy and I am a wushu guy probably we can fight in Muay Thai rules,” said Folayang.

Folayang, 22-12 as a mixed martial arts fighter, has suffered four consecutive defeats in MMA. His last outing marked his Muay Thai debut but he seemingly liked it so much that he wants to do some more against the 26-year-old American.

“I have been with a lot of Muay Thai guys. I took a lot of advice from different people especially my coach and other athletes. For me it's just normal, the striking department is just about the rules and how to use my elbows and knees,” said Folayang.

“I am looking forward [to fighting Sage Northcutt]. First I need to recover, assess myself, go with my team, and soon probably in the middle of this year or the third quarter I can come back again.”
