Khamzat Chimaev scores biggest career win vs Gilbert Burns at UFC 273
Khamzat Chimaev proved that he is the real deal following a unanimous decision nod over former world title challenger Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 on Sunday at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Florida, USA.
Chimaev shot for a takedown and pinned Burns to the side of the cage in the opening minute of the contest. They got back on their feet and exchanged hard strikes where Chimaev landed a hard jab that dropped Burns.
Chimaev followed up on the ground by unleashing heavy ground and pound but was unable to get a finish.
They fought on their feet in round two with both fighters landing strikes of their own that managed to stun each other.
Heavy leather was thrown in round three. Burns tried to shoot for a takedown but was effectively stuffed by Chimaev. Chimaev relentlessly stalked his foe switching stances before throwing a jab and pressing the action until the final bell.
All three judges scored it 29-28 for Chimaev after three five-minute rounds. It was his first time to go the distance as a professional mixed martial artist, improving his record to 11-0 while Burns fell to 20-5.
