Jarred Brooks earns ONE world title shot, Joshua Pacio responds

Former UFC fighter Jarred Brooks has earned his shot at the ONE strawweight world title currently held by Team Lakay’s Joshua Pacio following an impressive first-round submission over the no. 1 rated strawweight Bokang Masunyane at ONE 156 this Friday evening in Singapore.

Brooks, 28, wasted no time in closing the distance in the opening round before swiftly reaching Masunyane’s back while standing up. The American slid his arms below his foe’s neck and then ultimately put him to sleep with a rear-naked choke in round one.

“Man I got a bone to pick, I got to go against Joshua Pacio now! Please, please be ready Joshua. As you can see all facets I am ready,” Brooks said after the fight.

“It does not matter at the end of the day it all feels like a dream and it is supposed to. Joshua Pacio I am coming for you, man! I know I said it twice now but three times's a charm! I swear I am taking that belt home with me to the United States I promise you!”

The reigning world champion from Baguio City was apparently glued to his screen during the fight and immediately responded to Brooks’ callout shortly after the interview.

“Congratulations to the monkey god (Brooks’ monicker) for winning the spot. Awesome performance I'll see you soon,” Pacio wrote on his official Facebook page.
