Jon Jones willing to wait until September for heavyweight debut

Former UFC light heavyweight world champion Jon Jones is willing to wait until the last quarter of 2022 for his highly-anticipated heavyweight debut.

Jones, 26-1 as a professional mixed martial artist, last saw action in February 2020 against Dominick Reyes where he won via unanimous decision.

According to UFC President Dana White, the promotion is looking to pit Jones against ex-UFC heavyweight world champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 276 in July.

Jones, however, learned that the former UFC heavyweight champion would not be ready by then.

“Stipe is saying that he will be at his absolute peak in September,” Jones wrote on Twitter.

“I’m disappointed but patient, I want the heavyweight goat at his absolute best. I’ll wait until September. No excuses.”

Miocic, for his part, has not fought since March 2021 when he lost the title to Francis Ngannou by way of second-round knockout.
