Johann Chua edges fellow Filipino Carlo Biado to rule SEA Games men's 9-ball pool singles
Johann Chua reigned supreme in the 31st Southeast Asian Games men's 9-ball pool singles finals after beating fellow Filipino cue artist Carlo Biado on Wednesday at the Ha Dong Gymnasium.
Chua drew a 9-6 victory in their race-to-nine series to take home the gold while Biado, the 2021 US Open Pool champion, will settle for silver.
Tied at 5-all, the 29-year-old Chua went on winning the next three games before Biado roared back to make it an 8-6 game still in favor of the younger Chua. Chua then recovered to finish off Biado in the following set, 9-6.
This is billiards' second gold medal in the biennial meet after Rubilen Amit also dominated the women's 9-ball pool singles finals on Tuesday with a 7-2 mastery of her Singaporean foe.
Veteran Efren "Bata" Reyes is also assured of at least a bronze medal in the men's one-cushion carom event.
