UFC heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou eyes return in December

UFC heavyweight world champion Francis Ngannou is hoping to get back to action in December if not in the first quarter of 2023.

The 35-year-old Ngannou, 17-3 as a professional mixed martial artist, last saw action in January against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 where he won via unanimous decision.

He had to undergo surgery shortly after the fight because of an ACL and MCL injury, but he is looking to get back inside the cage as soon as he gets clearance.

"It is getting better. It's pretty good, it wasn't easy, but we're getting there. It's been only three months, so yes, I'm still doing physical therapy," Ngannou told TMZ Sports.

"If everything goes well I will be ready by the end of the year because it is going to be nine months. Let's say late December or early next year."

Noting that there are movements in the heavyweight division while he is on the sideline, Ngannou says he is ready to face any worthy opponent when he makes his comeback.

"For now, let's fight for the situation and get everything squared up. And then when I get close to the return we will see where the landscape is at because a lot of things can happen," he said.
