Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev eyed for UFC 279

A showdown between fan-favorite Nate Diaz and highly rated Khamzat Chimaev is reportedly being eyed for the main event of UFC 279 on September 10.

Diaz, 20-13 as a professional mixed martial artist, has not won a fight since 2019 and has gone 1-3 in his last four fights.

“This is a fight Nate has been asking for since the middle of April,” Diaz’s representative Zach Rosenfield told ESPN.

Chimaev, meanwhile, holds an unbeaten record of 11-0 and is coming off his biggest win to date with a unanimous decision nod over former world title challenger Gilbert Burns.

Should the fight become official, it would mark Diaz’s first fight in 2022 having last seen action when he lost to Leon Edwards in June 2021 and Jorge Masvidal in November 2019.
