Baloyskie, Janaaqt keeps playoff run alive, sustains 'miracle run' in MPL Indonesia
Powerhouse teams fell one by one like a domino in the penultimate week of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Indonesia.
Former league leaders Aura Fire, Onic Esports, and Evos Legends all suffered from losses that enabled the bottom half teams in the league to cling to their slim playoff aspirations.
The biggest spectacle was Geek Fam's back-to-back wins after taking down contenders Aura Fire and Evos Legends in similar reverse sweep fashion to keep their playoff hopes alive.
With the back against the wall, Filipino import Allen "Baloyskie" Baloy (Mathilda) led the way in Game 2 against Aura Fire, spearheading the initiations and participating in all enemy kills to finish with a 1-0-7 KDA.
He once again scored a 100% participation in the decider for a 2-3-12 KDA on Mathilda and completed the reverse sweep.
The story was the same in their series against Evos after they conceded the opener but it was Mark "Janaaqt" Lazaro's moment to shine this time as he displayed superb mechanical prowess on the Aamon to propel Geek Fam with a massive 8-1-4 KDA.
Baloyskie (Mathilda) delivered the most important play in Game 3 as he used a Circling Eagle to knock off one Evos defender and sacrificed his life in the final play to enable Geek Fam to take down the base turret for another reverse sweep.
They still need to hurdle Onic Esports and Rebellion Zion in the final week to qualify for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Onic Esports secured their upper bracket slot by taking their ninth season win courtesy of a 2-1 reverse sweep of Evos Legends, who is in danger of crashing out of playoff contention after suffering from their fifth consecutive loss.
After coming just one normal attack away from taking down the base turret in the opener, Kairi "Kairi" Rayosdelsol made up for the mishap as he played a meticulous Game 2 en route to a perfect 3-0-7 KDA on Balmond.
The Season 8 champions did not let-up in the decider as they completely dominated Evos with an 11-1 kill tally led by Kairi's 5-0-2 KDA on Ling.
Bigetron Alpha, coach by Filipino Vrendon "Vren" Lin, also continued with their hot streak as they took down Onic Esports, 2-1, for their 4th win in five matches and sixth overall.
In Game 2 of the series, Marky "Markyyyyy" Capacio posted a stellar 3-1-8 on Irithel that he followed up with a 3-2-8 KDA on Wanwan in the closeout win.
The win enabled them to take the fifth spot in the standings and a win over Evos Legends in their final season match will secure their spot in the playoffs.
