Alex Eala takes down Russian foe to advance to W80 Poitiers quarters


Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala took down Russian foe Vitalia Diatchenko in the Round of 16 matches in the W80 Poitiers in France on Thursday.

Eala defeated Diatchenko, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinals where she will face the winner of the match between China's Xinyu Wang and Croatia's Ana Konjuh.

Prior to defeating Diatchenko, Eala eked out a win against France's Jessika Ponchet, 6-2-, 5-7, 7-6(6) in the first round of the main draw.

Meanwhile in the doubles tournament, Eala and her partner Petra Marcinko lost to Czech Republic's duo Miriam Kolodziejova and Marketa Vondrousova, 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Prior to Poitiers, the US Open juniors champion made an early exit in the W60 Hamburg tournament in Germany where she crashed out in the second round.
