Former UFC champ Frankie Edgar open to fighting Pacquiao as MMA retirement looms

Former UFC lightweight world champion Frankie Edgar is ready to call it quits from mixed martial arts after he takes on Chris Gutierrez at UFC 281 on November 13 (Philippine time) at the Madison Square Garden.

Edgar, 24-10 as a mixed martial artist, is known for his boxer-wrestler style of fighting but has only won one fight in his last five outings. Regardless of what happens on fight night, Edgar maintains that he is on his way out of the sport no matter what.

“This is my last UFC fight, MMA fight for sure. I’m most likely, one hundred percent, it’s my last fight,” Edgard told MMA Junkie.

The 41-year-old American, however, had left his door open should an opportunity presents itself to face retired eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao in an exhibition. Pacquiao, 43,  is slated to face DK Yoo in an exhibition on December 11 in South Korea.

“But if there’s some boxing, maybe [Manny] Pacquiao wants to do an exhibition, I know he’s doing exhibitions now. I can be open to something crazy like that, but it would really, really have to be a good one,” Edgar told.
