EJ Obiena bags silver in German tiff to open pole vault indoor season


EJ Obiena bagged a silver medal in the International Jump Meeting Cottbus in the Lausitz-Arena, Cottbus, Germany early Thursday (Manila time) to open his campaign in the indoor pole vault season.

The Filipino Olympian cleared 5.77 meters to finish second behind American Sam Perkins who cleared 5.82 meters. The Asian record holder tried to clear the 5.82 meter clearance thrice but failed to do so.

"Cottbus you are amazing," Obiena wrote in his post after the competition.

Belgium's Ben Broeders claimed third with 5.72 meters via countback as Germany's Gillian Ladwig also cleared the same level.

Obiena's record in indoor pole vault is at 5.91 meters.
