Hidilyn Diaz still happy with Asian Weightlifting Championship results despite missing podium
Filipino Olympic gold medalist and weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz may have missed the podium in the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships, but said she was happy with the results she got.
Diaz placed fourth in the Asian Championships last Sunday where she competed in the 59kg competition — four kilos higher than her event during the Tokyo Olympics.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Diaz said the competition brought her closer to her goal of joining the Paris Olympics in 2024.
"First competition for a new weight category and a new beginning. Yes, I am happy with the result as it brings me closer to my ultimate goal of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics," she wrote in the caption of her post.
"There are 3 to 4 more Olympic Qualification events to qualify for Paris 2024, we are almost there and we know that there's still a lot of room for improvement in our training and preparation. My team and I are determined to work hard towards our goal for Paris 2024," she added.
Diaz also thanked those who supported her in her journey.
The first Filipino Olympic gold medalist skipped the ongoing Southeast Asian Games due to the Asian championship.
