Para chess bets lead medal rush as Philippines reaches 27 gold medals in ASEAN Para Games
The Philippine para chess team added to the country's medal haul in the 2023 ASEAN Para Games after delivering four gold, two silver, and five bronze medals late Wednesday in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Atty. Cheyzer Mendoza emerged victorious in the women's individual standard P1 with a final tally of five wins and one draw while absorbing no losses as compatriot Cheryl Angot settled for the bronze.
NM Darry Bernardo also bagged a gold medal after ruling the men's individual standard B2/B3.
The men's and women's teams, meanwhile, clinched the gold in team standard B2/B3 and standard P1, respectively, while the men's team also captured siler in men's team standard P1.
Francis Ching also delivered a silver after finishing second in men's individual standard B1.
Five bronze were also taken home by the men's and women's chess teams in standard B1 while Arman Subaste and Henry Roger Lopez wound up third in men's individual P1.
The Philippines also currently has at least 30 silver and 39 bronze medals.
