Eduard Folayang sees Khan rematch as an opportunity to assess how far he has come
Former ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang is planning to use his rematch against Amir Khan to assess how far he has come in his mixed martial arts career.
Folayang is set to face Khan for the second time at ONE Fight Night 14 on September 30 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
They first met inside the cage in November 2018 where he won via unanimous decision to claim the then vacant ONE lightweight world title.
“I will get to gauge my improvements and assess myself when we fight each other again,” Folayang said in an interview on Sparring Sessions.
Earlier this year, Folayang surprised the mixed martial arts landscape when he announced that he had departed his longtime stable Team Lakay. Later on, he established his own Lions Nation MMA together with former Team Lakay fighters Kevin Belingon and more.
Folayang’s upcoming fight will be the first time he is representing a stable that is not Team Lakay, and he is bent on showcasing the improvements brought upon by the new training regimen of Lions Nation MMA.
“Now we have more time to improve my weaknesses. I get to utilize my time with my striking coach, review our game plan, and execute. Same with our ground game, Professor Gibran is focused on our flaws and when we have questions, he is very willing to help us,” Folayang said.
“I have defeated him (Khan) before and when I fight him again I will defeat him again. Let us see his adjustments and preparation.”
