John Riel Casimero gives back to his community ahead of clash with Oguni
Former three-division world champion John Riel Casimero is giving back to his community ahead of his upcoming ten-round bout against Yukinori Oguni on October 12 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
The Ormoc native, who holds a record of 33-4 with 22 knockouts, recently built a gym where he trains the youth in his area together with his brother and trainer Jayson. According to Casimero, he now has everything he dreamed about so it is high time to share his blessings.
“I just want to help. I already have those I wanted before; money, this and that, and a vehicle. I have those now so I just want to help,” said Casimero in a mini documentary produced by Treasure Boxing Promotion.
“I want to help my neighbors. I want them to do this (boxing) because it is simple. I know they could do it because I could. I want to give them a chance to improve their lives because I came from nothing. I came from [a time of] nothing that even going to the gym was hard.”
Casimero also wants to lend a helping hand if any of his trainees would want to try their luck in professional boxing.
“I do not want them to experience hardship if they want to enter boxing. I have connections to promotions and friends so it will be easy. They just have to work hard. I am happy to help the youth and our neighbors,” Casimero stated.
