Kaila Napolis wins Philippines' first gold medal in World Combat Games

The Philippines won its first gold medal in the 2023 World Combat Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday as jiu-jitsu's Kaila Napolis reigned supreme in the women's -52kg ne-waza event.

Napolis defeated Anael Pannetier of France in the finals, 2-0, to take home the crown.

Prior to this, she went undefeated in the quarterfinals by winning against Adriana Cruz of Columbia, 6-0, and winning by submission against Mongoljin Ganbaatar of Mongolia in the semifinals.

The Philippines currently has seven medals from the World Combat Games, with two silvers from wushu's Agatha Wong and Clemente Tabugara, Jr., and four bronzes from wushu's Jones Inso and Thornton Sayan, and wrestling's Maria Ratcliff and Fierre Afan.
