POC optimistic about Philippines' medal chances in Paris Olympics

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino expressed his optimism about the country's performance in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

Taking Carlos Yulo, who won four gold medals in the Asian Gymnastics Championships, as an example, Tolentino said it is indicative of his performance in the Summer Games.

"That's an indicator that that will be his performance also in Paris. Kung tinalo niya China, Japan, and Central Asia, that would be it," Tolentino said.

He is also convinced that the likes of pole vaulter EJ Obiena and some of the country's Filipino boxers will perform well.

Asked about the possibility of another Olympic gold, Tolentino said it might just happen.

"Of course. We will be beating records again, God-willing, including the Tokyo Olympics."

As of writing, 12 athletes have officially booked their slots to the Summer Games. However, Tolentino said the POC is also waiting for the confirmation of possible qualified athletes from judo, skateboarding, golf, and athletics.
