Junna Tsukii moves on from karate to MMA
Asian Games bronze medalist and karate-ka Junna Tsukii announced her move from karate to mixed martial arts.
Tsukii announced the development on Wednesday.
In a social media post written in Japanese, Tsukii narrated her karate journey and thanked those who supported her along the way.
"I have decided to graduate from [being] an active karate player for 26 years and move on to MMA. The stage will change, but I will try my best to make it exciting with all of you, so I would appreciate your continued warm support," a translation of her post said.
The 32-year old athlete said she is much stronger now and is ready to take on new challenges in her life.
"My body is much much stronger than before," the translation of her post said. "Excited to do more with everyone."
Tsukii is a gold medalist for karate in the 2022 World Games and a bronze medalist in the 2018 Asian Games.
She is also a six-time medalist in the Southeast Asian Games, having a gold in the 2019 edition, and silver medals in the 2023 edition of the biennial meet.
