Elreen Ando's sister on weightlifter's Olympic run: 'Kahit matalo, champion ka pa rin sa amin'


Elreen Ando's sister Donabel Onde turned emotional after the Cebuano weightlifter ended her campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ando finished sixth overall in the women's 59kg event on Thursday.

Onde said she was saddened by the outcome, but still thankful that Ando was still able to complete her lifts.

"Kaya mo yan, Insik (Ando's nickname). Kahit matalo, champion ka pa rin sa'min. Bawi na lang next time, kaya mo 'yan," Onde said in a report of GMA Regional TV News'  Fe Marie Dumaboc from GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak.

Ando's sister also thanked those who supported Elreen in her journey.

"Sana po huwag kayong magsawang sumuporta kay Elreen Ando. Sana ipagdasal n'yo pa rin po siya na magtuloy-tuloy po 'yung laban niya. Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat," One said.

This is Ando's second Olympic stint after her first one in Tokyo three years ago.
