Marcos awards Filipino Paris Paralympians with cash incentive, presidential citation


President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. on Thursday honored the performance of Filipino para athletes who competed in the recent 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Para athletes, including Cendy Asusano (athletics), Agustina Bantiloc (archery), Allain Ganapin (taekwondo), Ernie Gawilan (swimming), Jerrold Mangliwan (wheelchair racing), and Angel Otom (swimming) were at the Malacañan Palace on Thursday to receive presidential citations and a cash incentive worth P1 million each.

Marcos recognized the athletes, along with members of the first family First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and sons Joseph Simon and William Vincent.

The president also met with 'Olympian for Life' awardee and swimmer Akiko Thomson-Guevara.

Guevara, who competed in the 1988, 1992, and 1996 editions of the Olympics, is also the board chairperson of Special Olympics Pilipinas and president of the Philippine Olympians Association.
