2025 Asian Winter Games

Gamez-Korovin duo finishes 4th; Limketkai, Frank, Borromeo cap PH's figure skating run

The duo of Isabella Gamez and Aleksandr Korovin finished fourth in the figure skating pairs event of the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China on Wednesday.

The figure skating pair had a total score of 155.62, 55.63 on short program and 99.99 on free skate, to narrowly miss the podium.

Gamez said she was under the weather during the competition.

“It’s just the nerves that really caught up to me. I just wanted to represent our flag so much and be strong, but mentally I wasn’t there,” Gamez said. “So that’s what we need to improve for us to be successful and raise our Philippine flag.”

“For us, it’s not what we need to do physically, but it’s what we need to do more mentally. We need to do a quick change mentally. You know I really let myself out. Aleksandr did good, he did his job, and he did everything,” she added. “Me? I was just a little under the weather, but I let myself go today.”

Korovin, meanwhile, said the pair has improved a lot but still has room for growth.

"Improvement since three years ago? Yes, so it’s a big jump, but we still need to be more confident in ourselves,” Korovin said.

Uzbekistan's Ekaterina Geynish and Dmitriy Chigirev won the gold with a score of 176.43, while North Korea's Ryom Tae Ok and Han Kum Chol placed second with 168.88. Japan's Yuna Nagaoka and Sumitada Moriguchi bagged the bronze with 168.35.

Meanwhile, individual skaters Cathryn Limketkai, Sofia Frank, and Paolo Borromeo also capped their respective runs in Harbin, China on Thursday.

Limketkai finished ninth overall after scoring 137.19 points, while Frank placed 11th with 120.05.
