EJ Obiena finishes 8th in Mondo Classic

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena finished eighth in the Mondo Classic held on early Friday (Philippine time) at the IFU Arena in Sweden.

Obiena easily cleared his first two bars at 5.50 and 5.65 before he failed his three attempts at 5.80 meters.

World record holder Mondo Duplantis topped the meet with 6.05 meters, while Greece's Emmanouil Karalis placed second with 6.00 seconds. American Sam Kendricks placed third with 5.90 meters.

Recently, Obiena announced that he will miss the World Athletics Indoor Championship due to lack of competitions and will instead focus on the upcoming outdoor season.
