Alex Eala falls to Ukrainian foe in first round of Italian Open


Alex Eala made an early exit in the Italian Open after falling to Marta Kostyuk, 6-0, 6-1, on Thursday (Philippine time) in Rome.

Eala fell to Kostyuk in the first round, the Round of 128, of the singles tournament.

 

 

Kostyuk is currently ranked world no. 27, while Eala recently reached a career high in her rankings at no. 70.

Prior to this, Eala competed in the Madrid Open where she fell to world no. 2 Iga Swiatek in the Round of 64.

Eala, however, will still compete in the doubles tournament with 2023 US Open champion and world no. 3 Coco Gauff.
