3 Filipino athletes advance to wakeboarding, wakesurf, muay thai semis in World Games


Three Filipino athletes advanced to their respective events in the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China on Friday.

Wakeboarder Raph Trinidad, one of the flag bearers from last night's opening ceremony, scored 80.20 points to finish on top of his heat and third among the 10 qualifiers to advance to the semifinals of the cable wakeboarding event on Saturday. Germany's Max Milde (83 points) and France's Loic Deschaux (80.80) topped the qualifiers.

Eric Ordoñez, meanwhile, tallied 36.67 points in the qualifying round to join eight other participants in the wake surfing semis set tomorrow.

Meanwhile, muay thai's Rudzma Abubakar booked a spot to the semis after a 30-27 victory in the quarterfinals against Anastasiia Mykhailenko of Ukraine in the combat 48kg women event.

Earlier, wushu star Agatha Wong scored 91.60 and finished eighth out of nine competitors in the taolu taijiquan event. However, she can still improve her score in the taijijian event on Friday night.
